Joy of Adoption Story

Ruby Rooster FKA Ivy

“Ivy, now known as Ruby, was destined to be a Fouts. We accepted her limitations, we knew she would never be the tail wagging super happy dog, but we wanted to SAVE her. With GRACE. And we did.”

We hosted “Ivy” for a weekend in July 2 years ago. She was afraid of her shadow, totally non-interactive, and basically frozen in one spot. We were asked to extend our weekend to a week to see if she warmed up. She went from frozen to very, very, cold, but we were in love. Ivy, now known as Ruby, was destined to be a Fouts. We accepted her limitations, we knew she would never be the tail wagging super happy dog, but we wanted to SAVE her. With GRACE. And we did.

What started as an act of love by us has morphed into something we could never have imagined. It was a very long first summer – she was treated for worms and still so very afraid. My husband had knee surgery. We were determined to let her know she was safe and loved, but on her terms. Time proved to be what was needed. Day by day, our Ruby continued to feel safe and loved and grow into that new place.

Now, Ruby is the delight of the neighborhood. She loves every single dog she meets; she thinks every human she passes on a walk is specially out to visit with her. She has blossomed into a seriously happy girl who wags non-stop, literally jumps for her nightly toothbrush, and SMILES!

She is Aunt Ruby to our daughter’s two boys (Zeke and Cooper). She is our Home Girl, our Lake Girl, our Beach Girl and our whole world!
