Joy of Adoption Story

Rosie FKA Shine

“I don’t think I found Rosie; I’m pretty sure she found me.”

I started volunteering at Saving Grace in November 2022 prior to losing my beloved dog Kearney of 14 years. I do shift work on Tuesday mornings, Host returns on Mondays, and help set-up for Open Houses. I love it and have met so many wonderful people.

In February 2023 I decided to host a dog for the weekend and that’s when I met “Shine”. It was cold and rainy that evening and she was a perfect passenger on our drive home. When we arrived home, we went for a short walk, and she immediately plopped down on a dog bed I had placed in front of the fireplace where she slept all night. The next morning, we took a walk, and I gave her a much-needed bath which she appeared to love.

I don’t know much about her history other than she arrived at Saving Grace in November 2022; she was malnourished, sick, apparently had had a litter or two of puppies, and was heartworm positive. By Saturday afternoon Rosie had stolen my heart and I sent in an adoption application. I was thrilled to be accepted as a “Foster to Adopt” until her heartworm treatment was completed and decided to change her name to Rosie which fits her personality perfectly.

I formally adopted Rosie on March 14, 2023. Rosie is a joyful dog and loves meeting new people and new furry friends; in fact, there are several dogs in our neighborhood who have been adopted from Saving Grace. Rosie loves her 2 cat siblings, her cousin Marley, and everyone in her new human family as well.
