Joy of Adoption Story

Ranger and Dakota

“The dogs live on an incredible facility called "The Farm" that is also the home of the founder, Molly. It is akin to a Disneyland for dogs, filled with loving volunteers and some great facilities to house the dogs while they await their permanent home.”

After meeting a Saving Grace volunteer and seeing all that she does to foster litters of puppies at her home, we were motivated to get involved and begin fostering puppies for Saving Grace in early 2023. Our first foster puppy was Ranger, who weighed only 16 pounds when we picked him up. It was a joy to watch him grow and learn and we got very attached to him. He now weighs 60 pounds and has a lot of energy but is extremely loving. Just before we made the decision to adopt him, we began fostering a puppy who we named Dakota. When we got her home, I immediately gave her a bath in the kitchen sink and her spirits had improved dramatically. I don’t think she had received any love from a person up until that point. She loved playing with Ranger and at night they would both lie in my lap on the couch. In the end, we adopted Dakota as well. She now weighs 44 pounds but remains as loving and loyal as ever. She is a great playmate for Ranger, and they are best buddies.

We continue to take in fosters and take in new ones once they are adopted. We realized each dog we foster allows Saving Grace to rescue another dog from a high needs shelter. That would not be possible, however, without a large army of volunteers who work 1-2 shifts a week. It also requires thousands of generous dog lovers who donate very much needed funds to support the great work. The support they provide is nothing short of amazing. They truly love these dogs and do everything they can to ensure they are in good health when they are adopted and go to good homes.

We have had a great experience since joining the Saving Grace foster family last year. We have met some incredibly caring individuals, and we are motivated to do more to help the organization. There are opportunities to assist with fundraising events and donation drives hosted by Saving Grace, both on site and within the community. This allows them to expand their reach, introduce more families to Saving Grace, and obtain the funds and supplies they need to continue to do their incredible work. We are both very busy with work, but we make it a priority to carve out some time to assist Saving Grace. The work is extremely rewarding, and we always get back more than we give. The cute puppies we foster absolutely melt our hearts. It’s a sad day when we drop them off for adoptions, but we cry tears of joy when we learn that they found a permanent home with a loving family.
