Joy of Adoption Story

Melo FKA Hot Rod

“If it wasn't for Saving Grace, we never would have had the opportunity to share our lives with Melo. He's such a bright shining light of positivity in our lives. It's hard to imagine how things were without him because he truly enriches our lives.”

Almost two years ago we adopted Hot Rod as a puppy. He was the last of his litter to be rescued, and even so, that didn’t deter him from showing his fun and energetic personality. We named him Melo due to his typical calm personality and his fur looks like a slightly toasted marshmallow on an open fire. As children, we both grew up with dogs, but this was the first for us adopting a dog together as adults. Knowing this, we wanted to rescue someone who needed a loving home. We went to several animal shelters before visiting Saving Grace, and while they provide an invaluable service, it was nothing like Saving Grace. The moment we went through the gates and saw all the dogs freely roaming around, we knew we wanted to adopt. Eventually we ran into Melo, and he was immediately attracted to us. We like to say he chose us just as much as we chose him.

Since then, Melo has been with us the entire time. I’m lucky enough to work from home and as I type this, he’s taking a nap by my side. In addition to the normal daily walks, Melo enjoys our adventures. We’ll go hiking around state parks, visit the beaches and mountains. He runs alongside me on a bicycle (on really hot days we’ll attach a trailer to the bike, and he rides along); and at the end of the day he’ll jump into bed with us. We also enjoy just sitting around the yard together watching the clouds go by.

Not only did we adopt from Saving Grace, but we’ve also donated as well. They really do work miracles finding dogs the right home.
